Program in Chinese Law and Business
In 2006, The Heyman Center inaugurated a new international program
focusing on the study of law and business issues in China. Several
students and faculty at Cardozo have experience working and traveling in
China and a significant number more have Chinese language skills and an
interest in pursuing careers in or related to China. The Program in
Chinese Law and Business seeks to analyze China's rapidly rising global
economic influence and the legal developments that have accompanied such
growth.
The Program in Chinese Law and Business will consist initially of a
speaker series on Chinese law and business and a special course for
Cardozo students interested in learning more about recent developments in
China. In January 2007, students and members of The Heyman Center will
visit Beijing and Shanghai to meet with representatives of various
international law firms, businesses, and government offices. This
introduction to the current legal, financial and regulatory environment in
China will serve as the foundation for a seminar on Chinese Law and
Business through which students will receive academic credit upon the
completion of an original research project.
Program in Comparative Corporate Governance at Oxford University
The Program in Comparative Corporate Governance is an intensive two week seminar organized by The Heyman Center at Oxford University, England. The seminar covers capital formation systems and corporate governance rules and regulations in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, China and other jurisdictions. The seminar takes place in early August and includes visits to the London offices of various international law firms so that students can learn first-hand about recent cross-border transactions and meet leading practitioners. Cardozo students receive academic credit upon completion of a supervised research paper. Students from other professional and graduate schools may attend and receive academic credit in accordance with their home institutions’ rules and regulations.
