MEDIA ADVISORY:  SEC AND CFTC COMMISSIONERS AND PANEL OF EXPERTS TO SPEAK AT THE CARDOZO SCHOOL OF LAW ABOUT NEW STRATEGY TO REGULATE FINANCIAL MARKETS

New York, NY  – On April 30, senior financial market regulators from the United States, United Kingdom and Canada will discuss the merits of principles-based regulation.

The roundtable discussion and speeches by SEC Commissioner Roel Campos and CFTC Commissioner Walter Lukken will be delivered at The Samuel and Ronnie Heyman Center on Corporate Governance at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law/Yeshiva University and will be open to the press.

Who Roel Campos, SEC Commissioner
Walter Lukken, CFTC Commissioner
David Brown, former Chairman and CEO Ontario Securities Commission and member of Public Interest Oversight Board
Dan Waters, Director of Retail Policy, UK FSA
Giovanni Prezioso, former SEC General Counsel
Prof. Eric Pan, Cardozo School of Law

WhenMonday, April 30, 2007 from 6:00p.m.-8:15p.m. ET

Purpose:  Recent reports on the competitiveness of the US capital markets have suggested that regulation can be made less costly and burdensome if US regulators adopt principles-based regulation. The oft-cited model for US regulators is the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) which has relied more heavily on principles-based regulation and will be publishing a manifesto about the advantages of principles-based regulation in late April 2007.

This event will be the first time a senior official of the FSA presents the manifesto to a US audience, providing an opportunity for our roundtable participants – including an SEC commissioner and a CFTC commissioner – to discuss the merits of rules- and principles-based regulation.

Where: Jacob Burns Moot Court Room, Cardozo School of Law/Yeshiva University, at 55 Fifth Avenue at 12th Street.
